Doreen and George's Adventures

From July 26, 2011 to August 7, 2011 George and Doreen did a cruisetour with Princess Cruises to Alaska.  The trip started in Vancouver, British Columbia and ended in Fairbanks, Alaska.

You can read our day by day blog (work in progress), or just go directly to the pictures.
  A few observations:
- We needed to spend more time in Vancouver.  What I saw was very impressive.  What I didn't see looked even more exciting.
- Princess does an excellent job trying to make sure their guests are happy.  Especially when you are at sea, they have a large number of programs ongoing.  Many times, my wife went to one program while I went to another. I found I had to keep the Princess Patter in my back pocket in order to make sure I didn't miss something.
- If given the opportunity to share a table at a meal, jump at it..  Most people who want to do it are great conversationalists. We did it every night except two and those two were really forced on us because larger tables were not available.
- Ask how much it costs.  We let our guard down once when we went to the Embarkation Party.  they were handing out glasses of something, then took our card number.  $20 for two drinks!  We did get to keep the plastic glass.
- Don't let the weather forecast depress you.  The 10 day forecast for our Cruisetour  was rain everyday.  It rained at times, but usually when we were on a sea day or in the evening or on a train.Only three hours at College Fjords was really affected.
- Most of the guides and bus drivers do a lot of research on their own to make sure you are informed and happy.  They do a great job making the gaps during the tours interesting.  I'd like to think they are rewarded because of their effort.
- Some people go to Alaska to see wildlife.  Some people go to learn things.  Whatever you go to Alaska for, remember that ii is your vacation.  Nothing is hokey if you enjoy it.
